Cultural Center

Rosario Castellanos
The building was built in 1552 and was a former Dominican Convent. Later, it was the General Headquarters during the revolutionary era. The State Government Treasury offices were installed there, it housed the Secondary and Preparatory Schools of Comitán. From 1975, it housed the House of Culture and currently houses the Rosario Castellanos Cultural Center.
In this place a strong two-story building was found that housed a convent of Dominicans who lived here and next to the main temple of the city dedicated in honor of Santo Domingo de Guzmán. Later the building was abandoned to become a federal barracks. We remember the marks of bullets that pierced many of its parts of the great construction, it was occupied as State offices, jail, Comitán Secondary and Preparatory School, and finally as a House of Culture.
