Church of
Saint Caralampius

This is a neoclassical building with indigenous features. Adorned with two bell towers, its façade is orange and red. The beautiful staircase-shaped atrium is particularly noteworthy.
Legend has it that thanks to his intervention, the martyr Caralampio saved the town of Comitán de DomÃnguez from the ravages of a smallpox and cholera epidemic that occurred in the mid-19th century. Its inhabitants built this church in gratitude. San Caralampio was a martyr who was executed by Roman soldiers during the persecution of believers in Jesus in the 2nd century AD. The town of Comitán dresses up for a party from 11 to 20 February to celebrate the saint, one of the most deep-rooted traditions of the city.
