Montebello Lakes

It is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful natural sites in the country - due to its aquatic environments, both surface and underground, originating from its karst nature, framed by dense pine forests, oak groves and mixed forests with the striking presence of bromeliads and orchids.
The lakes are “uvalas” that is, ancient cenotes that the corrosion of the limestone rock and landslides have joined together over time. Many of the bodies of water have no name. Their number is uncertain, although it is said that there are 59 lakes. Famous for the colors of their waters,
estos se deben a varios factores, entre los que se cuentan los tipos
of bottom soil, vegetation and light refraction.

The visit is made on two paths, the first leads to the grounds of the National Park itself, where the lakes Esmeralda, La Encantada, Bosque Azul, Ensueño and Agua Tinta are located, surrounded by pine forests. Next to them there are some services and also the possibility of making excursions to San Rafael, a natural arch 40 meters high over a sinkhole or ponor, where the small stream of water known as Paso del Soldado submerges. The other path leads to the lakes coordinated by the community, Cañada, Pojoj, Tziscao and Dos Lagunas, among them.
