The museum promotes and exhibits works of art, such as paintings and sculptures by artists from Chiapas and nationally. Among the pieces on display are pieces by Rufino Tamayo, José Luis Cuevas, José Guadalupe Posadas, Francisco Toledo, Ariel Mendoza, Luis Zárate, among others.

It has three permanent exhibition halls and one temporary exhibition hall. It offers painting, drawing and clay modelling workshops, art talks, children's visual arts workshops, concerts, conferences, art competitions and book presentations.

It is also the venue for the annual auction of Chiapas Plastic Art. Hermíla Domínguez was the daughter of Dr. Belisario Domínguez; thanks to her, many of her father's objects are being exhibited at the Dr. Belisario Domínguez House Museum.
